The triple disaster in Japan

2 years from the triple disaster in Japan today..

It was unforgettable to go to Japan last year, KIZUNA (human bond), courses at the Iwate University, on the 11th March disaster in 2011. To have the opportunity see the disaster area, meet the people, representatives of state and local authorities and civil protection. The visit to Rikuzentakata was something I will never forget. Listen to the story, talk to, and go around town with Takemi Vada who lost her parents, relatives and friends, town and roots when the town was wiped out, in the true sense. This is something no one expected that might happen.

When I went to Iwate University again last month I didnt go to the disaster area again. I went to a meeting in the engineering department, where I got the latest information on what is being done and got to experience an earthquake, perhaps to underscore the importance of this topic. Many municipalities are in the process of risk assessment and emergency plans, but part of the task is the fact that the communities have "aged". The average age of the population is high, making it harder to rely on the help of neighbors in evacuation.

Since I went to Japan last year, I have been following the steps that have been taken and I admire how the Japanese handled this big disaster in so many ways. On the 11th of March 2011 the "black swan" hit Japan, a natural disaster of the magnitude that cannot be prepared for. But still their system worked. For us who were not on site it is valuable to have photos and videos that help us to remember the true power of nature.

Today I light a candle for those who died and have not yet been found, and all that still suffer because of the disaster.
